Display typeface

A conceptual font.

For a couple of months, I had been interested in the discussion concerning 'mediocracy'; a for what I think is a typical Dutch subject, but with the development of the so called 'web 2.0' turns to be more global.

The 'copy-paste' generation which dominates channels like YouTube and MySpace, seems to be scared to be truly 'different' from the rest of the users. It wonders me whether this has been something unavoidable since the introduction of the Personal Computer.

Something I've always found strange since I started discovering HTML and web-design, is the little choice in typefaces to be used on the web. Using this as an inspiration, I drew a 'mediocre' internet typeface, which has been initiated by me, but has actually been drawn by the screen itself.
Taking every available 'internet typeface' (Georgia, Times, Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Geneva, Courier, Impact, Comic Sans), outlining them and putting them over each other, on screen.
After, I used the application's zoom-out function which led to the screen creating its own 'image' of a letter by overlapping the darkest parts. From every character, I took a screenshot at the end of this process, and extracted the most dark pixels.

From these extractions, which I manually redrew later, my letter was born.
